It is amazing when a great new fashion/beauty advert comes into town. Many of the big fashion players fail when it comes to television adverts coming across as too avent garde for mainstream audiences or too minimal/too extravegant depending on the brand. Thats why I am so happy to see the new Dior advert which stars power model Kate Moss preping for a papparazzi fuelled journey in Paris in all her black fur glory and killer heels. The advert is fast paced with a gentle music slowing it down. The advert is so beautifully shot with an enchanting scene starring Miss Moss in a grande boudoir engrossed in lavish Dior dresses, shoes, furs, runway invitations, boxes and bags, very idealistic. This scene is quite reminicent of Lily Allen's The Fear video with its concept of vanity and commercialism. While Allen's video may have been a tongue in cheek poke to being object obsessed, the Dior advert embraces it as a luxurious lifestyle choice. The video mergers a combination of filming styles; old school Hollywood paparazzi scenes shot in black and white along with the fast placed colour wurlwind of the current media.
I think the advert epitomises the younger identity of the Dior brand and easily creates the visions I associate with 21st Century Dior. Though I may not be buying into the said Lipgloss in question, I definatly found this advert enjoyable and more of a mini fashion film than a hard sell pitch.
